Ryan Giggs makes prediction about Manchester United youngsters

Ryan Giggs believes Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to retain a balance between youth and experience in his squad, citing his own emergence at United in the 1990s as an example.

Solskjaer has been keen for young players to flourish at United, handing debuts to players like Mason Greenwood, Tahith Chong and Brandon Williams during his short time in charge.

But Giggs, who stormed into the same United team as Paul Ince, Mark Hughes and Bryan Robson under Sir Alex Ferguson, heeded caution and predicted that the current youngsters could easily suffer dips in form and fitness.

He did, however, admit in an interview with The United Stand that Solskajer deserves praise and that the picture looks bright for the club's academy.

"I'm excited, because it's the Man United culture, seeing [young] players come in and do well, we've always had that," said the United legend.

"I was a bit different because I came into a team with Ince, Hughes, Bruce, Pallister, Robson - they were all men. These players aren't coming into a team like that.

"With the Class of 92, you'll hear Gaz Nev [Gary Neville], you'll hear Butty [Nicky Butt], [say that] we didn't win, as Alan Hansen famously said with kids. It was the older players that helped us through. You need that balance."

Giggs is concerned that the current batch of youngsters could make mistakes and warned that fans will need patience with so many coming through at the same time.

He added: "You can have as many exciting young players as you want, but they're going to make mistakes. They're going to have loss of form, they're going to pick up injuries, so they need time.

"We were coming into experienced teams who have won the league, so it's a bit different for these young lads coming into the team at the moment."
