Ryan Giggs explains what makes Odion Ighalo stand out at Manchester United

Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs reckons it is a huge positive that Odion Ighalo has extended his loan at the club.

Ighalo arrived at Old Trafford on a four-month loan deal from Shanghai Shenhua in January and has been a success with four goals in eight appearances.

Ighalo's initial deal at United was due to expire on May 31 but the Reds managed to reach an agreement with Shanghai to keep him for another seven months until January 2020.

“I'm really happy,” Ighalo said after completing the deal.

“It's a dream for me to be here. I'm buzzing and ready to go.

“I feel okay. The last few days have been difficult as there have been different talks about it but now I'm really happy so I need to concentrate fully. I'm here until the end of January, so it's good for me.

“I decided I want to stay and I'm happy. Since the first day I arrived, I made it clear that I wanted whatever it takes to continue that work. It was very difficult, there were some talks, but I'm happy they finally agreed and got everything done. Everything is official now."

The deal was well received by Manchester United fans, who have been impressed with Ighalo's impact since his arrival.

Giggs agrees with the fan base too, and believes that Ighalo's skillset offers something different for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's squad.

"He's different, he's just a centre-forward," Giggs told Sky Sports.

"The other players can play out wide, he gives you something extra. He makes an impact, whether it's off the bench or starting. Centre-forwards always want to score goals and he has scored goals everywhere he has gone.

"It's positive he's able to stay because he's done well. He's scored goals and made an impact whenever he's been on the pitch."
