Ryan Giggs criticises Manchester United player vs Liverpool FC

Ryan Giggs described Marcos Rojo's decision-making as 'strange' in the build-up to Liverpool's late equaliser at Old Trafford.

The Argentine defender, a late addition to Manchester United's starting line-up after Axel Tuanzebe sustained an injury in the warm-up, left Adam Lallana unmarked at the far post to slot home for the visitors after Marcus Rashford's first-half strike.

Rojo had initially been marking the Liverpool substitute but drifted into the centre of the penalty area when the ball was crossed in by Andrew Robertson.

Giggs also believes Robertson's cross might not have made it into the box at all had United right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka been in better physical condition.

The £50million summer signing from Crystal Palace had not player since September 25 prior to Sunday's match due to illness.

"[Aaron] Wan-Bissaka has not played a lot of games, maybe if he was a little bit fitter and sharper he would have got out quicker," Giggs told Optus Sport.

"But for Rojo to actually go past [Harry] Maguire is strange. If he holds his position maybe he can clear it. Ash [Young] never really gets goal-side but if you watch Rojo, he just anticipates where the ball is going to be instead of staying with his man.

"I think it’s a poor goal to give away but Liverpool, for that five or 10 minutes, were knocking at the door and there you see Robertson crossing the ball a lot further up the pitch, where for the majority of the game, him and Trent Alexander-Arnold were crossing the ball from 40, 45 yards out."
