Ryan Giggs announces Wales squad for Azerbaijan and Belarus fixtures as Ashley Williams misses out

Ashley Williams has not been included in the squad for Wales' upcoming matches against Azerbaijan and Belarus.

Ryan Giggs has named a 26-man squad for the September double header, but free agent and national team captain Williams is not among those listed.

Williams, who turns 35 on Friday, is without a club having been released by Everton in the summer but is expected to join Championship outfit Bristol City, although a move to Ashton Gate is yet to be completed.

The 86-cap international's last outing for club or country came in the 1-0 defeat to Hungary in June.

Aaron Ramsey is yet to feature for Wales in 2019 but returns to the squad after recovering from a hamstring injury.

The 28-year-old - who left Arsenal in the summer - made his Juventus debut on Sunday as a late substitute in a 1-0 win over Triestina.

Giggs has also included three uncapped players - Kieffer Moore, Joe Rodon and Joe Morrell - in his squad.

Wigan striker Moore was named in the squad for the clashes with Croatia and Hungary but withdrew due to injury while Swansea City centre-back Rodon has been included in the senior set-up on numerous occasions.

Lincoln City midfielder Morrell - on loan from Bristol City - has been a regular with Wales' Under-21 side and earns his first senior call-up.

Wales face Azerbaijan at Cardiff City Stadium in their fourth Euro 2020 qualifier on Friday, September 6 before hosting Belarus for a friendly fixture at the same venue three days later.

Giggs will face the media at the Urdd centre in Llangranog this morning to discuss his squad announcement.
