Ryan Giggs admits worry Manchester United could turn into Liverpool

Ryan Giggs believes that Manchester United could copy Liverpool's title drought and struggles to win the Premier League for 20 years.

The Reds suffered a 30-year barren spell of their own after dominating English football throughout the 70s and the 80s.

However, a first Premier League title alluded them until last season.

Similarly, Manchester United were dominant throughout the 90s and the 2000s, with their last title success coming under Sir Alex Ferguson in 2012/13.

Since, they have struggled to mount any form of title challenge.

Jose Mourinho's second-place finish in 2017/18 is their best finish but even then they were 19 points behind Manchester City, who racked up 100 points.

With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer yet to convince the fan base he is taking the club forward after a poor start to this season, Giggs has admitted that United could endure a title drought similar to their fiercest rivals on Merseyside.

"Yeah, 100%, it could be 15, 20 years before you know it, especially if Klopp and Guardiola stick around," Giggs told The Greatest Game podcast with Reds legend Jamie Carragher.

"They have the resources, the players. I think we have got Liverpool to look at when they last won it 'we'll win it again soon' whereas even Klopp, it took four and a half years for him to win it.

"It takes a long time. What Klopp did was he improved every season or won a trophy, they won the Champions League and you could see that improvement so the pressure was off.

"Every manager, every signing is seen as that 'he'll win us the league' but it's not like that."
