Ryan Gauld to remain in Portugal following Hibs loan spell

Ryan Gauld is set to remain in Portgual after leaving Sporting Lisbon, with a deal to join Farense on the verge of being completed.

The midfielder spent the second part of last season on loan at Hibs, but only managed six appearances thanks to a hamstring injury.

Gauld still has a year left to run on his Sporting contract, but has come to agreement with the Lisbon club that will allow him to leave early in order to get first team football elsewhere.

Colleagues at Football Scotland report that he will join Farense, whom he played for on loan prior to moving to Easter Road last January.

It will mean dropping down a level to the Liga Pro, Portuguese football’s second flight.

Gauld initially made the move to Sporting in 2014 after they paid Dundee United £4m for him after impressing as a teenager.

He hasn’t developed as many perhaps hoped however, and at 23 now needs to play regularly in order to kick-start his career.
