Ryan Gauld targeted by Braga as former Dundee United playmaker in line for blockbuster transfer

Determined Braga have launched a bid to sign Scottish star Ryan Gauld from fellow Portuguese side Farense after a string of top displays this season.

The former Sporting Lisbon, Dundee United and Hibs midfielder helped Farense win promotion to the top flight last season and has won plenty of praise for his displays this season.

Gauld has won four Man of the Match displays for Farsense - equal with Sporting Lisbon wonderkid Pedro Goncalves as the most in the Portuguese league.

And Braga boss Carlos Carvalhal has launched a bid to sign the 25-year-old, after midfielder Iuri Medeiros was ruled out for the season, as they attempt to challenge for their first ever title.

Gauld, who has yet to win his first Scotland cap, but could yet make Steve Clarke's Euro 2020 squad, is out of contract with Farense at the end of the season.

And Braga are far from alone in trying to sign Gauld, with several clubs in Portugal and abroad looking at him.

Farense are believed to be keen to hold on to Gauld until the end of his contract which expires in the summer.
