Ryan Gauld's renaissance continues as Scot's standout displays earn rival recognition

Ryan Gauld has been named Player of the Month in the Portuguese second tier after his first ever career hat-trick for Farense.

The former Dundee United superkid has been in excellent form this season for the Algarve club, who are in second place in the league and in the promotion spots.

The one-time Sporting Lisbon ace netted a hat-trick against Academico de Viseu and has scored six goals in his last three games before the plug was pulled in Portuguese football, due to the coronavirus.

But he's been honoured by his colleagues, because the Portuguese Players Union decide who wins their monthly awards.

Gauld - who earlier this month insisted he would never give up on his ambition to play for Scotland - topped the vote among his fellow players.

The 24-year-old signed for Sporting in a £3million deal in 2014 and was loaned to Vitoria Setubal, Aves and Hibs before joining Farense.

He spent a period of last season on-loan at Hibs before returning to the continent.
