Ryan Gauld on Benfica 'list of targets' as transfer race heats up for in-demand Scot

Highly-rated Ryan Gauld is reportedly being tracked by Benfica this summer after becoming a free agent.

The 25-year-old is out of contract after leaving Farense. faces a big decision on his future this summer, with offers already in from Europe, America and Asia.

Despite his side being relegated, Gauld enjoyed a terrific campaign in the Portugese top flight, scoring nine goals.

Record Sport have previously revealed that Southampton are among the Premier League clubs tracking the star and have contacted the player's representatives.

Polish side Legia Warsaw have also tabled an offer and Gauld has the option of moving Stateside with several MLS teams entering the transfer race.

Portugese outlet A Bola have now added Benfica to the list of potential suitors for the former Dundee United playmaker.

The report notes that Gauld is on the "list of targets" of Jorge Jesus as he looks to challenge for the title next term after a third-place finish.

It would be a controversial move if it did go ahead, with Gauld moving to Sporting Lisbon from Tannadice in 2014 for £3million.
