In-form Ryan Gauld is set to miss out on a place in Steve Clarke's squad for Euro 2020 despite his heroics for Farense.
The 25-year-old is in the form of his life but Record Sport understands he has been left in the dark over whether he will be included.
But it's been claimed by Scottish footballers abroad expert Byron Hutchison that he will not make the cut when the squad is announced on Wednesday.
Clarke has some big decisions to make ahead of next month's return to the Euros and with Kenny McLean and Ryan Jack injured, there is plenty of anticipation among fans over who will come into contention.
The likes of David Turnbull and Billy Gilmour have been mooted and there is an appetite among the Tartan Army to see some new faces pull on the Scotland jersey.
Gauld is one fans have been especially keen to see after a stellar season in Portugal.
He has scored nine and assisted seven in just 35 appearances for Farense as his decision to make the leap to Sporting CP from Dundee United in 2014 is finally paying off.
He would have made for a feel-good inclusion in Clarke's squad to face England, the Czech Republic and Croatia but it now seems he will miss out on a call.
Clarke has previously stated his desire to show loyalty to the players who have got Scotland this far and there is expected to be room for the likes of Ryan Christie and Ryan Fraser.
James Forrest may also make a return but Gauld's direct style has made him a popular figure among fans despite failing to win a cap so far.
But he may now have to wait until the World Cup Qualifiers in September at the earliest to make his mark on the international stage.
