Ryan Fraser to miss Scotland's World Cup qualifiers with injury

Ryan Fraser has pulled out of the Scotland squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers with an injury.

The Newcastle United winger will have been hoping to add to the 22 caps he has already earned for his country.

The diagnosis of his injury remains unclear at the moment but it has forced him out of two potentially huge matches over the next couple of weeks.

By the end of the international break, Scotland will know whether or not they will have secured a place in the World Cup qualifying play-offs.

They need just one win from their two matches and will be expecting to get the points they need on Friday night away at bottom of the group Moldova.

However, if they slip up in that game, they will face an uphill challenge to secure second place as they host Denmark in the second match in a week’s time.

The Danes are the only team in European qualifying with a 100% record and, although they have already booked their place in next year’s finals, they will be hoping to win their remaining fixtures.

Despite playing just twice for Scotland in their five games so far this season, Fraser will have been hoping to play a key role for Steve Clarke’s side.

He is now likely to return to Newcastle immediately to begin his recovery for the injury he has sustained.
