Ryan Fraser's 'pull us out of the dirt' vow after Newcastle players' dressing room exchange

Ryan Fraser has vowed to pull Newcastle United 'out of the dirt' when the Scot returns from international duty this week.

Although Newcastle have a game in hand on 18th-placed Fulham, the Magpies currently lie just two points clear of the relegation zone.

Newcastle have only won two games since December 16 and Steve Bruce's side were embarrassed by relegation rivals Brighton at the Amex last time out.

Following that 3-0 defeat, Fraser revealed that the players 'got stuff off our chests' and the black-and-whites can ill-afford another performance like that ahead of the visit of Spurs to St James' Park on Sunday.

Fraser is one of a handful of players who are currently on international duty - scoring in Scotland's 1-1 draw against Israel - and the forward hopes to put things right when he returns.

"It does make it difficult but, at the same time, if we win the next game, it's all rosy again and everyone's looking up again," Fraser told NUFC TV.

"Look, we're so disappointed and everyone's gutted in there but we're all going to try and make it right.

"Obviously, you could say the international break has come at a good time but, at the same time, boys are going to be away and we're not going to be training altogether.

"So the boys will obviously stay back, train and work hard and the boys like myself will go away and try and play well on international duty and come back with a mentality of pulling us out of the dirt to be honest."
