Ryan Fraser hungry for Newcastle United debut against West Ham United

Ryan Fraser insists he has done everything he can to be involved against West Ham United tomorrow night.

The Scotland international winger has trained this week with the main group after working alone since his release from AFC Bournemouth.

Fraser could be handed a bench role and the chance to top up fitness in the League Cup against Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday night.

The 26-year-old's last game was a 2-1 defeat against Liverpool in March.

Fraser said: "I did fitness work yesterday and they (NUFC staff) are really pleased with how I have kept myself.

"I've worked hard during the lockdown.

"In the last couple of weeks, I have been working hard too.

"I have given myself the best chance to be involved in the game.

"You are only going to get the right type of fitness playing games anyway.

"So why not Saturday?"

Fraser also offered some insight to his life after Bournemouth and how he has been keeping in shape.

Fraser said: "Me and Brad Smith who played at Bournemouth had been running at a local pitch together.

"We've been getting through it with really hard runs.

"Then I'd get home and go on the bike, basically on the verge of sickness, trying to hit them maximum levels.

"I'd be doing weights and try to give myself a quick turnaround.

"I knew it was going to be a quick turnaround if I signed for a club.

"Mentally it is hard because when you are on your own you don't want to do it but you know need to do it.

"Getting through that pain barrier is worth it afterwards."
