Ryan Fitzpatrick to start for Buccaneers against Jets

FitzMagic is back, and for his first trick, he'll be taking on his former team.

Ryan Fitzpatrick will start for the Buccaneers on Sunday when the Jets travel to Tampa Bay. Bucs coach Dirk Koetter announced Monday afternoon that starter Jameis Winston will be shut down for several weeks while he heals his injured throwing shoulder.

Winston is dealing with an AC joint sprain.

Fitzpatrick, 34, spent 2015 and 2016 with the Jets. He enjoyed the best statistical season of his career in 2015 after filling in for Geno Smith, who lost the starting job after getting punched in the face by IK Enemkpali in the locker room at the Jets' Florham Park facility.

Fitzpatrick threw for a career-high 3,905 yards in 2015 and set a franchise record with 31 touchdown passes. But he regressed in 2016, hurling a shocking number of interceptions before being replaced by Bryce Petty. After a 5-11 finish, the Jets moved on from Fitzpatrick and signed Josh McCown to be their starter for this season.
