Ryan Fitzpatrick leads Dolphins past Colts in battle of ex-Texans QBs

Who says Ryan Fitzpatrick never did anything good for the Houston Texans? The Harvard graduate led the Miami Dolphins past the Indianapolis Colts 16-12 in Week 10 Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium.

The loss drops the Colts, who were a half-game behind the Texans, to 5-4 on the season. The Texans are in the catbird seat in the AFC South with a 6-3 record.

Fitzpatrick, who had a 6-6 record with the Texans in coach Bill O’Brien’s first season in 2014, led the Dolphins with 21-of-33 for 169 yards, and an interception. Fitzpatrick rushed four times for 23 yards and a touchdown, which proved to be the difference in the game.

Hoyer was as bad as Texans fans and Colts fans remembered him from his 2015 stint in Houston. Hoyer completed 18-of-34 for 204 yards, a touchdown, and three interceptions. Running back Marlon Mack was not as effective on the ground as he carried 19 times for 74 yards.

For Houston, it gives them a little breathing room in case things go sideways with the Baltimore Ravens, their immediate opponent out of the bye. The Texans take on the leaders of the AFC South, who trounced the Cincinnati Bengals 49-13 Sunday, in Week 11 at M&T Bank Stadium. If the Texans fall to 6-4, then the Week 12 Thursday night match-up with the Colts will have big implications for the division title as a win spoils the Colts’ head-to-head tiebreaker over the Texans. If Indianapolis prevails, then a series sweep is the tiebreaker that would give them the AFC South if they finished with the same record as the Texans.

The Dolphins improve to 2-7 on the season while the Bengals slip to 0-9 on the year. In the battle for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft, it appears the Bengals are running away with it as the Dolphins are now on a two-game winning streak.
