Ryan Edwards set to leave Hearts for Burton Albion in the coming days

Hearts’ Scottish Cup final goalscorer Ryan Edwards is set to move to English League One side Burton Albion.

The Aussie scored Hearts’ opening goal at Hampden against Celtic in May, only for Odsonne Edouard to bag a brace and win the trophy for the Hoops late on.

Edwards endured a difficult season up until then however. Steven Naismith’s return on another loan deal meant there was little chance of him playing regularly despite having just signed from Partick Thistle.

He was sent to St Mirren on loan but returned in January and played mostly with Hearts’ reserve side.

His displays for them and in training however meant he forced himself back in Craig Levein’s plans for the final few weeks of the season and won himself a starting spot in the cup final.

However, Edwards is keen to keep playing regularly and realises that won’t necessarily continue at Tynecastle, so has been allowed to seek a move elsewhere.

The move to Burton is expected to be completed in the coming days. He'll link up with former Jambo David Templeton at the Pirelli Stadium.
