Ryan Edmondson joins Aberdeen as Derek McInnes looks to plug injury gaps

Aberdeen have completed the signing of Ryan Edmondson on loan from Leeds United until the January transfer window.

The striker will go straight into the squad to face Rangers at a time when the Dons have an injury crisis with their frontline.

Sam Cosgrove has been ruled out for at least 10 weeks with a serious knee injury while Curtis Main has also picked up an injury that rules him out of Saturday's game.

But Aberdeen will have Edmondson to provide back-up to Bruce Anderson, who is likely to start in the game given the Leeds forward's late signing.

The 19-year-old has made two appearances for the Whites since joining in 2017 from York City.

He’s been a regular in the Under-23 side over the last two seasons and now has an opportunity of regular first team football.

Record Sport exclusively revealed on Thursday night that he would join the club after injuries to both of their main strikers.

Derek McInnes was looking for someone who could come in right away and has his man until January at least.

And he said: “I’m delighted Ryan is here.

“His eagerness and willingness to come to Aberdeen is really encouraging. He is a player we’ve known about for a while and always felt he had the correct attributes to add to our squad.

“With the injuries to Sam and Curtis we clearly would have been short of two of our key players so I must thank the Board for their co-operation in getting Ryan here, during what is a financially tough period for the Club.

“I’ve no doubt Ryan will have a positive impact during his time with us.”

The Pittodrie side take on Rangers at lunchtime on Saturday in the first Premiership game of the campaign.
