Ryan Edmondson facing decision time as Aberdeen deal ticks away

It is decision time for Aberdeen and Ryan Edmondson as his loan deal from Leeds United expires in the coming days.

The 19-year-old has been with Derek McInnes’s squad since late July, but after only three starts in 25 Dons matches this term there is doubt around an extension.

Alongside the three league starts, Edmondson has 12 appearances from the bench and was used again by McInnes as recently as Saturday against Dundee United.

Far from being frozen out at Pittodrie, Edmondson has remained just on the fringes of the starting line-up, but he certainly would have hoped to have played more and scored more than his two goals.

McInnes is unlikely to be in the business of guaranteeing a teenager starts at the top level of Scottish football, so Edmondson must evaluate where he feels his best chances of playing are.

Nonetheless, as he approaches his 20th birthday in May, the England under-19 international knows he needs to make an impression at Aberdeen or elsewhere this season.

EFL clubs were interested in Edmondson before he signed with the Dons, so clubs south of the border may well swoop again this month if he leaves the Scottish Premiership outfit.
