Ryan Edmondson back at Leeds United for treatment after suffering Aberdeen training injury

Leeds United striker Ryan Edmondson has been ruled out at least three months after suffering an ankle injury in training while on loan at Aberdeen.

The 19-year-old joined the Scottish side on loan until January less than two weeks ago and made his debut in the Dons' season-opening defeat to Rangers. Derek McInnes' side have not played since following a raft of Covid-19 cases from other players in the squad, but Edmondson will now return to Leeds for treatment.

"The club this evening confirms Ryan Edmondson has suffered an ankle injury in training," Aberdeen said in a statement. "A subsequent scan has revealed he could be out for up to 3-4 months and Ryan has now returned to Leeds United to see a specialist who will determine the next steps in his treatment."

Edmondson's loan deal runs until January and both the player and Leeds United hope that he will be able to return to the club once he has recovered.

"Absolutely gutted but I can assure you all that I will try my very best to get back fit and join the boys back up at Pittodrie soon," Edmondon posted on Twitter.

Edmondson has been Leeds' leading scorer for the under-23s over the past two seasons, but has not featured in the first team since September 2018.
