Ryan Day on playing in the SEC if Big Ten cancels football season: “We need to look at every option.”

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day is starting to swing the mighty stick that being the pilot of one of the most influential programs in college football allows him to do.

First, he spoke out on Twitter vowing to fight for his players to have a 2020 college football season.

Thereafter, he appeared on ESPN’s College Football Live to address the current situation, where he stands as the face of the Buckeye program, and what he plans to do going forward.

To say that he is an advocate for playing the season would be an understatement. He was direct, unambiguous, and articulate on his belief that everything should be done to try and make a season happen.

Ryan Day: “We cannot cancel the season right now. We have to, at the very least, postpone it and allow us a little bit of time to keep re-evaluating everything that’s going on.”

“We owe it to these kids to exhaust every single option we possibly can, and then we go from there."

But if that doesn’t happen, and the decision-makers in the Big Ten decide to put the season on ice, Day was asked about his appetite for stepping into another conference and providing his guys with a chance to compete. Maybe the answer won’t surprise you, but coming from a league in which everyone is typically aligned in thought and culture, it caught a few off guard.

By Day appearing on national television, tweeting out his support and become an advocate for moving things forward towards a resolution where college football can be played, Ohio State is basically laying the gauntlet down. It’s clear now where OSU’s stance is. He’s not one to go off-script, and by waiting until later in the day, there’s no doubt the Buckeye program and administration is on board with trying to do everything it can to bring college football to the field in some way shape or form in 2020.

This is just getting started so stay tuned. This thing is either going to be burnt to the ground, or this groundswell of support to exhaust all resources and options to make things work will have an impact.

Which way it goes at this point though is anyone’s guess.
