Ryan Day and Ohio State still exploring all options on playing football this fall

It’s now been almost 24 hours since the bombshell the Big Ten handed down on postponing fall sports, including football, until the spring. So, we’ve had some time to let it all soak in after a dizzying few days.

But we’re not the only ones. There’s been some thought and contemplating of things going on at Ohio State as well.

Head coach Ryan Day met with the media via a Zoom call on Wednesday and had some pretty interesting things to say. The question and answer session was wide-ranging, but one in particular stood out above all others, and it’s the fact that the Buckeye program is still fighting to see what options are out there for competitive football before the spring.

Day said that he and athletic director Gene Smith have discussed other options “at length,” even before the media availability and that they are still “looking at everything, and “overturning every stone.”

What?

Yes, just hours after Smith seemed to shoot down the idea of playing outside the Big Ten to reporters, it doesn’t appear as though this thing is done. Now, all of the questions that are being asked and the research on options might lead nowhere, but just when you thought it was all wrapped up that Ohio State was going to toe the line and throw the towel in on playing this fall, it appears as though that’s not necessarily the case.

Stay tuned as always.
