Former Scotland defender Jackie McNamara has backed the use of VAR after Ryan Christie 's penalty claim was waved away.
Austria Stefan Ilsanker appeared to pull Christie down in the box with the World Cup qualifier level at 1-1, as Steve Clarke 's side were denied the chance to take the lead.
Former Celtic star McNamara believes the call from referee Carlos del Cerro Grande was key in the game, and makes a strong case for video assistance.
He told Sky Sports: "You can see he has both hands round him and Christie has his eye on the ball, and the defender is not even looking at the ball.
"How the referee doesn’t give it I don’t know. Sometimes you look at them and think of VAR.
"I think VAR would have helped in this case and it would have definitely been given.
"It’s disappointing because it was a big moment to maybe take the lead as well, so disappointing not to get it, but it was a definite penalty."
Following the whistler's decision, Scotland would fall behind again before John McGinn's stunned overhead kick rescued a point.
