Davie Provan has revealed his criticism of Ryan Christie's move to Bournemouth ended with an angry text from the midfielder's dad.
Provan played alongside Charlie Christie at Celtic Park during the 80s and he wasn't happy with the criticism aimed at his son for making the move to the English Championship.
He had questioned Christie's ambition by leaving Celtic to join a team in the second tier of English football, even for a team pushing for promotion.
Christie decided to leave Celtic on deadline day to move south of the border with his contract running out in January, and Provan had suggested he left for cash.
And that received an angry response from Christie who sent his old friend a text and insisted that's not why he left Ange Postecoglou's team.
He told Go Radio: "I got a message after the comments I made on the programme last week where I said it demonstrated a lack of ambition from Ryan Christie.
"His dad Charlie, who I played with at Celtic and was a teammate of mine, messaged me this week and was very unhappy that I suggested Ryan's ambition was in question.
"Basically he was just trying to point out that he sees Bournemouth as a stepping stone and a chance to kick on.
"Obviously he sees himself in the English Premier League at some stage.
"I just think he could have got a better club and, to put it simply, I think he's a better player than Bournemouth. I think he can get a much better club than Bournemouth."
