Ryan Christie's Celtic contract quirk leaves Scott McDonald baffled as Hoops hero queries 'very odd' deal

Scott McDonald has been left baffled by Celtic's decision to hand Ryan Christie a contract that runs out in mid-season.

The Australian striker was shocked to discover that the deal signed by Christie in 2018 will run out in December this year, but reckons Christie's agent has done a tremendous job.

He's described it as a 'genius' move but believes it's a crazy decision from Celtic, and admits he's never really heard of something like that before.

Christie has been linked with big moves to Arsenal and Nice over the last six months to a year and could move for free if a new deal isn't agreed over the next couple of months.

And that has left McDonald confused at how that happened at Celtic Park but did concede that it was a great thing for Christie as a player.

He told the Celtic Huddle podcast: "His agent is a genius, that’s what I say. If you are allowed to have a contract run out in mid-season that’s fantastic, for a player, for an agent.

"There’s a deal to be done whether it’s with the club (Celtic) or another club. How that has been agreed is very, very odd, it doesn’t happen very often in football, at all."
