Ryan Christie OUT of Rangers clash after Celtic fail in Kieran Tierney precedent bid

Celtic's attempts to free Ryan Christie from quarantine to play against Rangers tomorrow have failed.

The Hoops had looked into getting the player available after it emerged that Kieran Tierney has been freed up to play for Arsenal against Manchester City on Saturday.

Both stars had gone into self-isolation after being classed as close contacts of Stuart Armstrong who tested positive for the virus with Scotland.

But the Gunners have been able to successfully argue that Tierney, who has already tested positive for the virus in the past, can play in the game.

Christie won't be so fortunate as the Scottish Government revealed there will be no relaxation of the rules.

A statement read: “Our national guidance in Scotland is clear - if you are identified as a close contact of someone who has tested positive for Covid-19, you will be asked to self-isolate immediately for 14 days.”

In his press conference earlier today, Celtic boss Neil Lennon admitted the difference between Scotland and England was "very confusing" and suggested answers would be demanded.

He said: "We are of the understanding from stories in the media and phone calls that have been made that Kieran Tierney is eligible to play for Arsenal.

"If that is the case we have been pushing hard to get Ryan involved as well.

"He is in the same situation as Ryan was. He has had two tests with us, both negative, so from our point of view he is good to go and we would be very confused and want answers, that Kieran Tierney is allowed to play and Ryan has been refused to play.

"It would be very confusing and I think our supporters would want to know the answers to that as well. At the minute it is very much in the air."
