Ryan Christie in Kevin De Bruyne comparison as Celtic boss Neil Lennon pays the ultimate compliment

Celtic manager Neil Lennon has heaped praise on Ryan Christie, comparing his assist against Hamilton to Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne.

The Scotland international came off the bench to make his return from a groin injury and set up Christopher Jullien to put the Hoops in front.

Christie has been one of the most influential players in the Premiership this season and his manager has afforded him some high praise indeed.

Lennon told Celtic TV: "His energy's fantastic, his enthusiasm's fantastic but more than anything it's his quality.

"The quality of the ball for the second goal is De Bruyne-esque.

"Having Ryan back after being out for almost a month is such a bonus for us.

"Tom Rogic came on and did a great job, Jonny Hayes did a great job, but Ryan's having a fantastic season and we'll see more of him as it goes on."

The Hoops have opened up a seven point lead at the top since the winter break, with Rangers faltering in their title challenge.

Both sides were in Dubai for the break and some Gers fans feel Steven Gerrard over-worked his squad, but Lennon made clear Celtic were working hard too.

"We did some intense training in Dubai. I think the guys needed the break as well, but the physical work - you can start to see that's coming to fruition.

"A bit of heat doesn't go amiss as well.

"But the motivation is good, the boys are back at it and I'm very pleased with the level of performances that I'm seeing."

Scott Brown made his 700th club career appearance in the win over Hamilton and his manager feels the captain is better than ever.

Lennon said: "He looks great.

"He's always been a naturally fit athlete but his football is as good as ever. I've just been delighted with what he brings to the team, but away from the pitch as well he's just a great influence on a lot of the younger players who look up to him and respect him - as we all do."
