Ryan Christie in Celtic exit fear as contract quirk could allow early switch

Celtic could lose Ryan Christie on a pre-contract as early as this summer, according to a report.

The playmaker is out-of-contract next season having signed an extended deal in 2018, but that signing only takes him up until the January transfer window.

That means he is allowed to speak to clubs from as early as June and that could lead to him leaving Parkhead in mid-season during the next campaign.

The Mail on Sunday report that Christie's deal could then see him speak to other teams in the summer, meaning he could use Euro 2020 as an audition for contracts elsewhere.

French club Nice were one of a number of clubs interested in signing him last summer, as were a host of English clubs.

That includes Burnley among others, and Christie is reportedly interested in testing himself in the English top flight.

Christie is one of a number of players who have been linked with moves away from Celtic Park this summer.

Odsonne Edouard, Kristoffer Ajer and Callum McGregor have all been linked with moves, while the likes of Vasilis Barkas are also set to be moved on.

Scott Brown has already decided to leave for Aberdeen while loanees Shane Duffy, Jonjoe Kenny, Moi Elyounoussi and Diego Laxalt will return to their parent clubs.
