Leigh Centurions full-back Ryan Brierley sustained a horror eye injury during Thursday’s defeat to Leeds Rhinos at Emerald Headingley which required him to undergo emergency treatment.
The former Huddersfield Giants, Toronto Wolfpack and Hull Kingston Rovers star was hurt during the closing stages of the Centurions’ 48-18 loss.
The injury was sustained when the 29-year-old attempted to stop Leeds prop Tom Holroyd scoring and was accidentally hurt in the process.
Brierley's eyelid split, resulting in him needing it to be stitched together in an emergency procedure on Friday morning.
He is now set for around a month on the sidelines as a result, with his eye visibly shut after the incident as he posted graphic images of his injury.
Leigh head coach Kurt Haggerty told the press after the game: “Ryan Brierley has got a really nasty cut on his eye and we are going to get him over to the hospital.”

Leigh remain winless after losing 48-18 to the Rhinos.
