The prop Ryan Bailey has been released from his contract with the Super League side Hull Kingston Rovers with immediate effect, having made just a solitary appearance for the club.
Bailey, one of the most decorated players in Super League history having spent his entire career with Leeds Rhinos before joining the Robins ahead of this season, made his debut for the club against Wakefield Trinity Wildcats last month, but it proved to be his only appearance for the Humberside club.
During his time with the Rhinos, Bailey, a former Great Britain and England international, won six Super League titles with the club, as well as three World Club Challenge successes. He also played a key role in Leeds’s run towards their first Challenge Cup success in 15 seasons last year.
However, the club have said in a statement that Bailey has been released from his contract to enable him to focus on matters off the field, with it seemingly unclear as to whether Bailey will return to the game following the decision to part company with the Robins.
Bailey’s manager, Chris Orr, told the club’s website: “I would like to thank Hull Kingston Rovers for the way they have conducted themselves during our discussions over the past few weeks.
“They have respected Ryan’s right to privacy throughout this process and have offered him their full support. We couldn’t have asked for anymore during what has been a difficult time in Ryan’s private life, but it’s now best to move on for all parties.
“We would like to wish Hull KR and their supporters all the best for the rest of the season.”
The 30-year-old made more than 300 appearances for Leeds during his time with the club, and was awarded a testimonial last year for services to the Rhinos.
