RWITC secures consensus in TAI on Common Tote

MUMBAI: The Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC) has succeeded in getting everyone on the same page on the issue of Common Tote in a meeting of the chairmen of the Turf Authorities of India (TAI) held last Sunday.

"Though there are still some issues yet to be resolved, TAI has unanimously agreed to start something on the Common Tote by March 31 next year," RWITC chairman Zavaray Poonawalla told TOI. "I told them we have to move forward with the other pools on the lines of combined jackpot pool which is already in place," added Poonawalla who had a long discussion with TAI chairman MAMR Muthiah.

According to Poonawalla, it was decided to appoint a subcommittee of TAI for the Common Tote and two members from each club will be part of it. "Apart from the chairman, the secretary will be the other member on the subcommittee," revealed Poonawalla.

With no GST relaxation in sight despite hectic lobbying by the turf clubs with the central government, a Common Tote appears to be the only way out to provide attractive dividends to punters as a common pool has the potential to swell the betting kitty. A common portal, if established, would bring a dramatic rise in the tote collections.
