Rwandan FM: Rwanda is not 'destabilising' Burundi

Rwandan FM: Rwanda is not 'destabilising' Burundi

Tens of thousands of Burundians have fled to neighbouring Rwanda over the past year due to heightened political violence.

In February, a UN panel accused the Rwandan military of training hundreds of Burundian refugees, including children, with the goal of ousting Burundian President Pierre Nkurunziza, a claim the government denies.

In this web extra, Rwandan Foreign Minister Louise Mushikiwabo reiterates the government's stance, saying her country's only involvement in the crisis was to "take care of Burundian refugees".

"If I wanted to overthrow [Burundi's government], I would use my own army," Mushikiwabo adds.

Watch more from Mehdi Hasan's interview with Mushikiwabo in which they discuss alleged human rights abuses and Rwandan politics.
