Ruud Gullit's damning verdict on Tottenham and what Jose Mourinho must learn from Bayern loss

Ruud Gullit believes Jose Mourinho will now know who he can and cannot count on within his Tottenham squad, following the 3-1 defeat against Bayern Munich last night (Wednesday).

Mourinho gave opportunities to a number of players who have had limited game time in recent weeks as Spurs faced the Bundesliga giants in their final group stage match, with first and second place in the group already decided prior to the fixture.

But Spurs , who did not include Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Jan Vertonghen or Serge Aurier in the squad for the game, fell to a defeat against the German side, with Bayern ending the group stage with a 100 per cent record.

After the game, Mourinho said it would be unfair to speak about any conclusions he had made from the defeat, but that it was important for him to collect some information about players who had not had chances to play in recent weeks.

Tottenham train ahead of Bayern Munich

And former Chelsea boss Gullit insists that the information he got will not reflect well on the players involved at the Allianz Arena.

“He [Mourinho] said he’s not happy at all with what he saw. We saw also a Tottenham that wasn’t doing anything, not much," he said, speaking as a pundit on beINSport.

“He was looking at the players who were playing, were they playing 100 per cent? Or were they playing with 90 or 80 per cent?

“That was the information that he got and that is a conclusion I can tell you, and he’s going to use it for the next couple of months coming, for sure.

“He saw it, and he thinks to himself, ‘ok you were the ones moaning that you weren’t playing, here’s your chance, now show it’.

“That is the conclusion. He doesn’t want to lose, but he gave them an opportunity to play and he wanted to see for the rest of the season who is the one I can trust, if I need him?

“That was what he wanted to see, and I don’t think he was very happy with what he was seeing at all, and I think he made his conclusion.

“Maybe not a definite conclusion, but he knows who he can count on and not.”
