Ruud Gullit has cast doubt over Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli's ability to 'raise his level' in big games.
The Dutchman was speaking on beIN SPORTS after Tottenham’s 1-0 defeat to RB Leipzig in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 clash.
Spurs were missing Son Meung-min after the South Korean playmaker broke his arm against Aston Villa, as well as long-term absentee Harry Kane, meaning Alli led the line along with Lucas Moura as Jose Mourinho played without a traditional striker.
The 23-year-old didn't make an impact however, and after being replaced by Erik Lamela in the 64th minute, he showed his frustrations by throwing a water bottle.
Former Chelsea boss Gullit was on punditry duties, and said after the game: "When it’s a good team, he can handle them, because they’re playing and he can move into spaces.
"But when it doesn’t go that well, is he the player that can raise that team? I don’t think so."
Gullit also defended Mourinho’s decision to substitute Alli.
"He was frustrated to go out, but he had to go out."
Mourinho admitted after the game that the Englishman’s performance was not up to scratch.
"I think he understands why I took him off and our performance improved," Mourinho said.
