Ruturaj Gaikwad equals Sachin Tendulkar's record, becomes joint-fastest Indian to score 1000 runs in IPL

NEW DELHI: Chennai Super Kings opener Ruturaj Gaikwad equalled legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar's feat on Sunday as he became the joint-fastest Indian to score 1000 runs in the history of the Indian Premier League.

Gaikwad, who took 31 innings to reach the landmark, hit Sunrisers Hyderabad paceman Marco Jansen for a biggie on the first ball of the sixth over to reach the four-digit mark in IPL.

The 25-year-old got his midas touch back with a belligerent 99 during the IPL match against SRH at the MCA stadium in Pune.

Gaikwad (99 off 57 balls), who won the Orange Cap last season, was at his destructive best as he smashed six sixes and as many fours before falling short of a deserving hundred by just one run.

Gaikwad continued to find the boundaries as SRH's sensational pacer Malik was sent on a leather hunt with the opener smashing him over cover before lifting him over long-on for another maximum.

Tendulkar and Gaikwad are followed by Suresh Raina (34 innings), Rishabh Pant (35 innings) and Devdutt Padikkal (35 innings) on the list.
