Ruthless gang of kidnappers snatch baby from screaming mum's arms in horror abduction

A heartless gang of kidnappers snatched a baby from his screaming mother's arms in a shocking abduction in broad daylight.

The five-month-old tot, whose name has not been disclosed by police, was taken by the yobs who fled on a motorbike.

The mum - named only as Erika - got off a bus on a main road in Chamilpa, Mexico, and within seconds, the gang pounced.

The thugs roared off as Erika screamed desperately for help.

But neither the infant or the mum have been seen in the six days since the ordeal, and investigations continue in Chamilpa, around 50 miles south of Mexico City.

Police are trying to establish whether the abduction was random or if the father of the child - neither of whom have been named - could be behind it, according to local media.

Detectives had made no arrests at the time of writing and the investigation is ongoing.

Mexico has one of the highest rates of kidnapping in the world, far outstripping other countries.

According to official figures from the Mexican government, there were 1,111 known kidnappings in 2019 alone, with many more cases going unreported.
