Rutherglen spotlighted in special Monopoly board game edition - for Home Bargains

Forget about Fleet Street and leave out Leicester Square - Rutherglen now has a place on the Monopoly board.

The Royal Burgh features in a new edition of the classic board game - based around retail chain Home Bargains.

Rutherglen was the site of the first Home Bargains in Scotland, which has earned it a place in the bizarre new tie-up.

Rutherglen is valued at £260 in the game, and is part of the yellow set of locations, along with Bathgate and Clydebank.

Some Ruglonians may well be disappointed that Clydebank has a higher price tag, of £280.

On the board it sits next to the Aylesbury Distribution Centre, and just along from the Store Maintenance Contractor.

A description of the game reads: “Move over Mayfair, Home Bargains is in town.

“This exclusive version of Monopoly by Hasbro features some of Home Bargains most iconic locations, warehouses and our very own online store.

“Starting off in the very first HB store in Old Swan, Liverpool, you can end up in Pontefract, Rutherglen, Newtonabbey, Harlow or Poole.”

The unusual game is currently out of stock on the Home Bargains website, but eagle-eyed shoppers have been picking them up from their local branches for £14.99.

Remarkably, the price is cheaper than the classic version, which is listed for sale on the firm’s website at £19.99.
