Rutherglen shopping centre still providing locals with essential products

The doors of Rutherglen Exchange Shopping Centre remain open as customers continue to use it as a destination for essential items such as food, medicine and baby goods.

While some retailers closed on Monday following Government directives, Dicksons Chemist and Superdrug were still open as the Reformer went to press, continuing to dispense prescription and other medicines, personal care items and baby essentials.

So too was Home Bargains, which continues to sell fresh and long-life foods, cough and cold remedies and other essentials such as nappies and wipes.

Reporting steady footfall and healthy trade was James Campbell Family Butchers within Rutherglen Exchange, where shoppers continue to buy cooked, raw and healthy option meat dishes, as well as pies, grains and soup mixes, and fresh fruit and veg.

On Friday, while retailers such as Peacocks, The Works and baby and children boutique Kids Talk were still serving loyal customers, there was an upbeat atmosphere in the centre as shoppers enjoyed various Mother’s Day events.

Talented Suzie G entertained shoppers with her popular Patsy Cline tribute act, belting out Country favourites from the shopping centre’s makeshift stage. Suzie and Rutherglen Exchange manager Jane Cowan joined music lovers to browse vinyl and CDs in one of the most successful record and CD fairs the centre has ever hosted.

Tracy Chambers of Transform Fitness was also on hand to explain to locals that while group fitness sessions are on hold, they can still stay fit and healthy by taking part in outdoor walks by observing the need to socially distance.
