Members of the St Columbkille’s Eco committee were delighted to welcome parents and grandparents from the school’s family to their first ever outdoor based Garden Day.
Each stage in the school and nursery were given a plot within the newly build and carefully prepared raised beds.
The children planted bulbs, plants and bushes which were all donated by families. This proved an invaluable experience for the pupils and a great opportunity for the wider school community to get involved.
The school gardens now have an area for each stage within the school and a special Community Garden section to encourage parents and grandparents to be creative in their own special plot. The Eco Committee will help keep the area weed free so that it can be enjoyed by all.
Garden Day would not have been possible without the help, support, encouragement and drive of the Eco-Committee and Miss McGill, Mrs MacKinnon, Mrs O’Connor, the Parent Council and the inspirational parental body.

A special mention goes to Bob McNamara, one of the amazing grandparents – the children were blown away by his expertise, invaluable knowledge and enthusiasm for gardening.
Miss McGill helped organise the event. She said: “I was absolutely amazed by the support and generosity of our families, we had wonderful support from our Parent Council, from preparing leaflets advertising Garden Day to actually getting up to their knees in mud and planting the very kind donations!

“Today would not have been possible without the drive and support from our Eco Committee, our Parent Council and our ever inspirational parental body. A massive thank you to them all.”
