Rutherglen MP Margaret Ferrier gave reading at Glasgow church day after developing Covid-19 symptoms

Shamed SNP MP Margaret Ferrier gave a reading at a local church service a day after developing mild coronavirus symptoms.

The Rutherglen and Hamilton MP attended a public mass at St Mungo’s, a Roman Catholic church in the Townhead area of Glasgow, on September 27 - the day after she took a Covid-19 test.

Ms Ferrier sat near the front during the service at the church, located on Parson Street, and made a five-minute gospel reading from the altar, reports the Daily Record.

It comes after she left a 'coronavirus trail' in her local constituency, visiting a gift shop, beauty salon and leisure centre on the same day she took a test for Covid-19 – which later came back positive.

The MP also had face-to-face meetings with police officers, who had to take medical advice over self-isolation.

On Friday the Metropolitan Police said it is investigating Ms Ferrier with British Transport Police after the MP contacted Police Scotland to report she may have breached legislation and guidance relating to Covid-19.

The politician travelled to London to debate the coronavirus response in Parliament after experiencing Covid-19 symptoms before testing positive and returning to Scotland.

She acknowledged that "there is no excuse for my actions" after revealing her journey while positive with the virus.
