A Rutherglen man, who was out of work for four months and had no career prospects, is celebrating his first year in his dream job.
Tony Khan, 63, had previously worked at a local bus depot, and had owned an Indian restaurant.
But after personal circumstances forced him to leave his last job, he decided to change industry.
He said: “I wanted a change, and when I contacted Remploy they were able to give me an overview of the services they offered, as well as the explaining the range of employment options I had.”
Tony had always had an interest in security as a career, and had obtained the Security Industry Authority badge (SIA).
He sought Remploy’s support in securing employment in this sector.
He said: “Remploy’s support helped me find a new career which I could thrive, succeed and excel in.”
Key worker Gillian Pollock said Tony came with an excellent attitude and a willingness to work.
Within weeks of contacting them, Tony was applying for a succession of roles, and secured an interview with Cordant Security, sourced by Remploy’s employer service team.
Gillian said: “We knew he had an excellent chance of being successful at his interview, but we supported him in preparing for this.
“We understand the difficulty of preparing for interviews, so our specialist support can really boost participants’ confidence beforehand – and give them the best possible chance of success.”
Within only six weeks of seeking Remploy’s support, Tony was delighted to hear he was successful in securing the role.
He said: “I was over the moon, it was a relief. Remploy’s excellent support and guidance gave me a platform to move into employment at a relatively quick pace. They made the transition from unemployment to employment seamless.”
Tony receives In Work Support, which is offered to participants for up to 12 months after starting work to ensure they can overcome barriers they may face in their role.
He said: “Remploy’s support helped me complete my first year in work with Cordant and I hope there will be many more to come.”
