Rutherglen Glencairn's fury as vandals smash up dugouts

Rutherglen Glencairn have slammed the 'toerags' who caused hundreds of pounds worth of damage at their stadium over the weekend.

And furious Glens gaffer Willie Harvey has revealed the club's committee will have to dip into their own pockets to cover the repair bill.

On Friday evening vandals broke into the Celsius Stadium and damaged the away dugout.

It's not the first time the club has been the victim of loutish behaviour, with broken bottles on the pitch, youths loitering in the stadium and graffiti being sprayed on buildings recently.

After the latest attack on their ground, Harvey revealed it will hit him in the pocket as the club has no funds coming in due to the Covid-19 shutdown.

He said: "This has been an on-going thing, but this time it's very hard to sustain because there's no money coming into the club and there's nothing happening.

"Anything we need to fix, the money is coming out of our own pockets. It's costing committee men and myself money.

"The committee has been working very hard. They've tidied up the stadium, we've had painters in painting the dressing room, so we've done a lot of good work.

"On Friday afternoon I went up to let the painters away and everything was fine.

"I went up on Saturday to let the painters back in and we found the away dugout all smashed up and two holes cut in the fence

"Obviously the local toerags have been out and about again.

"They are coming in, drinking and smoking and doing all-sorts of s***."

The club has had contact with Rutherglen and Hamilton West MSP, Margaret Ferrier, regarding the latest incident and it has been reported to Police Scotland.

A post on the club's social media page also condemned the vandalism.

Harvey added: "There seems to be a bit of uproar about it this time.

"The MSP is getting involved and we've spoken to Police Scotland about it, so hopefully something will be done about it."
