Rutherglen Glencairn reveal bid to join the SPFL pyramid and West of Scotland League

Rutherglen Glencairn have formally made their move to join the SPFL pyramid, it was revealed this morning.

The Glens revealed that they had been part of two key meetings regarding restructuring of the juniors last week with proposals put forward by Lowland League chiefs to create a 'tier six'.

The proposals would give non-league sides the chance to earn promotion to the Lowland League and then League Two.

Glens committee members attended crunch talks with the West Region SJFA and the Lowland League officials last week.

Following this the committee met last night for "an in-depth discussion regarding the merits of all options available for the future of our club."

Following the meeting, the club committee took the "unanimous decision" to submit a formal application to join the new West of Scotland League this morning.

The statement read: "Please be assured that this decision was made after several weeks of detailed due diligence but the football club committee.

"We recognise that, as the current custodians of our 124 year old club, we need to ensure that the best interests of the club are protected to ensure we are still operating in another 124 years' time.

"We now await the outcome of the future Pyramid Working Group discussions which are due to take place next week."
