Rutherglen experts reveal how to handle hayfever in lockdown

Allergy sufferers have been warned that living in lockdown doesn’t make them less susceptible to having problems.

High pollen counts are bad news for hay fever sufferers who often succumb to symptoms like sneezing, headaches, itchy eyes and inflamed ears.

And while people may be spending less time out and about, they can still be affected if their windows
are open or if they have a garden.

But expert advice to combat allergies is on offer from Specsavers’ director Laura Mullet, told the Reformer : “There are some things contact lens wearers can try to help reduce the irritation.

“Contact lens-friendly eye drops can help calm itchiness and wearing prescription glasses can prevent pollen from getting into your eyes.

“Those suffering with hay fever could also try daily disposable lenses during the summer months.”

She added: “To avoid ear irritation, try putting a balm like Vaseline around the nose to trap pollen.”

She also advised that vacuuming and dusting your home regularly can also help.
