Rutherglen club are boxing clever with new gear after striking a deal

Fighters at Durie’s Amateur Boxing Club will be turning out in style, after receiving new kit.

The Rutherglen club recently received 36 Nike tracksuits and t-shirts from Ross Koppel of Seconds Out Fight Store in Edinburgh for the Scottish Development Championships at Ravenscraig last weekend.

Head coach Archie Durie is delighted with the link-up to Seconds Out, and to Koppel, who he has known for years.

Durie, whose fighters picked up their gear at Hampden before their club show last month, said: “It’s something we wanted to get done.

“The boys paid half, the club paid half, and we paid to get them done.

“We had t-shirts and tracksuits and got them in time for the home show at Hampden, and they were there for the Scottish Championships.

“All the boys looked good, looked smart, and the tracksuits were cracking.

“That’s the best Scottish Championships we’ve ever had, with nine fighters in finals.”

Koppel is a well-known face on the fight circuit, having been involved himself in Muay Thai for years and Durie says he helped out a bit with the huge order.

“I’ve known Ross personally for years, he’s a good guy, and he’s been pushing this through, he got us the gear at a wee bit cheaper as well,” he said.

“It was good Nike tracksuits we got, and it was cracking to get them in time.

“The club is the busiest it has been since Covid as well.”
