Rutherglen chemists celebrate awards win at Scottish Pharmacist awards

A Rutherglen-based chemist has been recognised at the annual Scottish Pharmacist awards.

Melville Chemist of Fernhill , part of the M&D Green Group, picked up the training & business development gong – supported by Royal Pharmaceutical Society Scotland, for carrying out research into the needs of elderly patients in order to provide an excellent service for care homes across the country.

The ceremony saw more than 400 professionals gather in Edinburgh for the illustrious “Chemi” awards.

Judges commended the Melville team for identifying a “clear training need” and developing an in-house training manual, referring to it as a “very impressive contribution”.

Winners were chosen by a panel of judges made up of experts from the pharmacy profession.

A huge number of entries were received this year from all over Scotland, with accolades being handed out across 10 categories.

Pharmacist manager Emma Boyle said she and her team were thrilled to win.

Emma explained that delivering training to both pharmacy staff and care home teams was a new approach to professional development and caught the eye of the judges.

“We do a lot of work with our care homes and community-based patients who receive care with assisted support and we felt this was an area with an underlying training need,” she said.
