Rutherglen band Braw release their new single Whisky In Hand

A pair of brothers are raising a glass after the release of their new folk-pop single, which pays homage to the amber nectar.

Andrew Mundy, of Kings Park, wrote Whisky in Hand as an anthem for the quiet moments at the end of a Scottish day.

He penned the lyrics while spending nights alone in a fishing village on the coast of Fife, trying to take his first steps in the world of work as an account manager for craft gin distiller, Eden Mill.

Performed with brother, Iain, duo Braw’s latest single was recorded and mixed with Eddie Macarthur at Stealth Recording Studio on Glasgow’s southside.

Formed in 2019, Braw – who specialise in close harmony vocals – have been performing across the Glasgow music scene, with a focus on the southside. During that year, they released their debut single Swing Door, which was followed by Piece by Piece, Home from Home and finally, Whisky in Hand – a track on which Andrew plays piano, guitar, bass and drums, with Colin McKee on violin.

All of these are to feature on Braw’s 2021 debut album.

The brothers’ unique vocal blend allows them to create innovative and original harmonies, while offering fresh takes on classic songs when playing live, drawing inspiration from acts such as Simon and Garfunkel and Biffy Clyro.

Iain, of Burnside, sums up Braw’s latest song: “When you’ve given your all from dusk to dawn and your mind is racing with regrets, fears and worries, ‘Whisky in Hand’ urges you to take a few minutes to sit down and rest your mind, fill your glass with a wee bit of spirit and know there’s nothing left to be done this night.

“In these few rare minutes, you can rest and think of family, friends and all those you love.

“They’re beside you while you enjoy the day’s last wee flame. It’s about that one glass of whisky which can make your night just that wee bit better.

“With this in mind, we ended the song with a ‘virtual crowd’ of family and friends singing the chorus repeated.

“With Covid-19 restrictions, everyone recorded themselves on their phones and we managed to piece together their voices to create this effect.

“Many of these people also make an appearance in the music video.”

‘Whisky in Hand,’ which was released on Saturday, is featuring on CamGlen Radio’s playlist from this week.
