Rutherglen and Cambuslang are two of Scotland’s most adulterous areas, according to a sleazy dating website.
IllicitEncounters.com, a dating site for married people, last week revealed their annual survey listing the most unfaithful cities and towns in the UK, with both Rutherglen and Cambuslang making the top 100.
Rutherglen was ranked 54th in the 360 strong list, with 622 people from the area listed on the site, a total of 2.4 per cent of the area’s population.
And Cambuslang came in at 89th, with 403 locals listed as looking for a bit on the side, a total of two per cent of the area’s population.
Perhaps passions are cooling, however, as that number is a significant drop from last year, when there were 765 love rats signed up.
Bosses at the controversial website claim cheating in Scotland has soared by 25 per cent since the 2014 independence referendum.
Jessica Leoni, of Illicit Encounters, said: “A lot of Scots are trapped in unhappy marriages. They are sticking with their partners but seeking discreet excitement elsewhere.
“Cheating has never been more popular in Scotland and there has been a strong surge since the independence vote five years ago, with a 25 per cent rise in numbers.”
Hamilton was the highest ranked Scottish area, rated eighth in total, with 1431 residents signed up.
The cheating capital of the UK is the Royal town of Windsor, according to the website. The Berkshire town has 1555 locals cheating on their partners.
The number of cheats in each town was revealed after researchers looked at the Infidelity Index. It allows users to search a city, town or postcode to discover how many people are having affairs in any area.
IllicitEncounters.com spokesman Christian Grant said: “Lots of couples cannot afford to divorce due to the cost of establishing two new homes, so they are sticking with their partner and adding some spice to their marriage by discreetly having an affair.”
