Ruth Maguire fundraiser planned by Bryansford GAC

The lives of three people who died in separate accidents over the St Patrick's Day weekend will be celebrated at a fundraising event being held by their GAA club in Co Down.

Ruth Maguire, Shane McAnallen and Martin Patterson remembered at Carlingford candlelight vigil all members of Bryansford GAC in Newcastle, will be remembered at the family fun day.

Ruth, from North Belfast, worked as a juvenile coach with the club and disappeared whilst on a hen party trip in Carlingford, Co Louth, on Saturday, March 16.

The 30-year-old mum of three's body was recovered from Carlingford Lough following an extensive multi-agency search operation on March 18.

Shane, from Castlewellan, and Martin, from the Bryansford area outside Newcastle, were Carlingford crash claims lives of two men from Co Down during the early hours of March 18.

Both aged in their twenties, Shane was a long-term member of the Bryansford GAC club and had played the previous season and Martin had played in its youth set up.

There will be face painting, a gymnastics display, challenges, a BBQ and bands from the area will perform, poignantly including the musician who was to perform at Ruth and Jim's wedding.

Friends of Shane and Martin have also organised a a vintage car rally.

The event will take place at St Patrick's Park in Castlewellan on Saturday, May 25. It will begin with a children's football blitz at 10.30am and all proceeds will be donated to Newcastle RNLI, Mourne Mountain Rescue Team, The Search and Rescue Dog Association and Air Ambulance NI.
