Ruth Langsford shuts down critics in on-air This Morning rant before talk turns to knees

Ruth Langsford kicked off This Morning with a bit of an on-air rant today.

The TV star was back at the helm of the ITV daytime show alongside husband Eamonn Holmes.

It is their last couple of days on the show after taking over the programme for the summer holidays.

But when Ruth and Eamonn began to discuss what was coming up on Thursday's show, Ruth hit out at the so-called 'fashion police' following a comment from This Morning's fashion expert.

The 61-year-old told viewers that stylist Kat Farmer would be on the show later, saying: "She's going to show you how to look perfect whatever your age."

Kat then said: "I am here to prove age is just a number and you can wear whatever you want at any age.

"We are here to bust some myths."

Ruth, however, then fired: "Who are these fashion police? Who say you shouldn't wear a short skirt over 50; you shouldn't wear this, you shouldn't wear that.

"Who are these fashion police?!"

Eamonn then commented to his wife: "You would not wear a short skirt if you were over 50."

But Ruth replied: "That is because I do not like my knees. But that is not because of my age!"

"What is wrong with your knees?" Eamonn, also 61, asked. "Describe your knees to us," as the conversation took a turn.

The conversation quickly turned to Ruth's knees (ITV)

Ruth said: "Well, they are a bit squidgy. I have squidgy knees."

"Squidgy knees?" a baffled Eamonn said. "They are a bit podgy. Podgy knees."

"Yeah, a little bit," Ruth somewhat agreed.
