Ruth Langsford offers support to Love Island's Dr Alex George after brother's death as she discusses losing her sister

Ruth Langsford has offered her support to Dr Alex George after he revealed the tragic news of his younger brother's death.

The former Love Island contestant and NHS doctor announced on Friday that 20-year-old Llŷr had died following a battle with mental health.

Alex penned an emotional message on Instragram alongside a picture of them together, which prompted Ruth to get in touch.

The This Morning star was among thousands to comment on the heartbreaking post.

Ruth, 60, mentioned how she understood his pain after her elder sister Julia took her own life last June at the age of 62.

She wrote: "Alex, I am so, so sorry for your tragic loss. I lost my sister to mental health last year so I understand the pain and shock you and your family will be feeling.

"I send you the hugest of hugs and if you ever need to talk you know how to reach me.

"My condolences to you and your family and may your darling brother rest in peace."

Llŷr was set to follow in his brother's footsteps and was due to start medical school next month.

Alex said that he was "the kindest and most caring soul and said he "would have been the most incredible doctor," as he spoke of his tragic passing.

He updated fans over the weekend and thanked them for their support adding: "I am sorry that I can't reply yet. I need to try and process what has happened somehow."

Ruth revealed that she almost quit her career in TV following the tragic death of her sister.

The presenter said that she was close to giving up her career in the industry as her "heart was breaking" and it "seemed wrong to be cheery on screen."
